Older Clubbing…..…?

Hello and this week’s thinkthing is something that the pandemic has brought on for me, when the pandemic started we all knew we had to put our clubbing on hold and I was kinda of ok with that as I needed a bit of a break anyway, think possibly I’d be breaking up with regular clubbing since the year before but you know how break ups go…

Now we are here with the clubs reopening and suddenly I feel old, this last 2 years have been tough and I feel the events have aged me personally massively, I’m now in touching distance of half a century old and certainly feeling every year of that journey!?!?

What’s clubbing look like now? I see through insta that it looks quite the same? But surely there’s a few differences? Is it better or worse? Wouldn’t miss the bar crush at all ! One thing I did think is there’s people that turned 18 from March 2020 till around June 2021 that have never experienced clubbing !!! How mad is that thought? It’ll be like NYE till November! Joy!

So as an older clubber one who’s seen the insides of over 1000 clubs and would actually like to possibly experience a few more before retirement, then where does the double jabbed and ready to partaay go?

Well till about midnight, 1am possibly but that’s only if we can get a drink ok and if there’s a taxi if it’s raining and we’ve got no work in the morning and if…...

Looking back to when we were younger say 20 years old did we see 50/60s old clubbing? I’m not sure we did? I’m not sure I remember any? It’s been said that maybe I don’t see age that way?

Anyway if we use 2020 as a base point and if I do some maths when I was 20 (1990) and if I saw a 50-year-old in a club then if they went out clubbing at 20 that would have been 1960. Bloody hell I think clubbing was a little different then???

Is that the same effect now? Is everyone going to say who’s that old guy?

Once I pick a night for my return to club photography then I’ll report back..

Actually if you’re reading this I’m looking for a return to clubbing with a night to document so if you have one then give me a shout !

Choosing images for this blog is sometimes the most important thing, usually it’s quite easy I trawl the images looking for a reference to the writing or to a great image that I hang the words round but this one has been tough with the main idea being about older clubbing

Thinking about choosing an image to illustrate that and who would want to be tagged with the older clubbing label? Be that people or clubs or nights? Ah the archive problems associated with nightclub images maybe I’ll write about that next time?

I’ve chosen a nice generic image, a treatment of an idea from a particular time, place and space, will anyone recognise? Answers on a postcard or via electronic means if you prefer..
