My favourite pictures (part 2)
Images I love pt 2
In a previous post I mentioned that I may talk more about the club images that I love, I started with one from the archive at Clique taken a while ago and you can see that here
So by (un)popular demand here is part 2.
This one snuck up on me a little bit as I didn’t know when I’d taken it it was to become one of my favourite images, this is from an excellent night that I truly loved documenting called “Pop Curious?” which in this incarnation was at Aatma nightclub in the Northern Quarter
Thinking about how I took this it was a slightly different approach thatI normally too, this one was taken from the stage as I adopted a stance of standing on the corner to document the stage shenanigans and then the reactions of crowd, I was never sure of this approach but grew to quite like it in the image it provided, I have a couple taken form this viewpoint that I quite like a drop down air guitar one being especially memorable.
This one features Tilly Screams with a cameo by Jake on the feather boa, hope neither of them mind my using this image!!! Funny thing about memory before I actually pulled the picture up, thought I knew this image well but I do seem to remember it as a slightly wider crop with more crowd in and maybe a little lower down..
I love the energy that is purveyed through this image of the night, the scream by Tilly who I think was lip-syncing to Britney at that moment, then I think there was na impromptu stage appearance where the boa was going to be used to rein it in but rather fetchingly ended up as a blindfold, wonder if Tilly knew what was going on ! Love the crowd recording the video in the background and wonder what was being said just to the right of the image and that Aatma bar, I think I‘d recognise it anywhere even when it’s out of focus and a mere background detail, hope that this can be seen in all it’s glory
I know that this moment only lasted fleetingly but the image has frozen that whole mood, feeling, roarkess behaviour and ectasy of that time all in one image. As I say it never really got any kudos but I’m used to that !! Maybe when I’m gone hey !!
I know it’s a cliché but that’s why I love photography !
This is the type of image I envisaged when I set up sbh it was with the aim of capturing and sharing these sorts of moments, other club sites wanted to profit by sleaze or shame but I like the fun that clubbing brought to me via nights like these and now as they drift into the past (this image is now 5 years old !?!?) this was taken quite late on in the life of sbh but it’s still one of my favourite shots from a nearly 30 year career in clubs !
